This course was designed with the experienced student and new supervisor in mind. The course utilizes video examples, discussion and practical exercises to guide the new or future first line supervisor to a critical understanding of issues and concerns relating to the job as a first line supervisor. The class includes a self-evaluation of the participant’s leadership style in order to assist them in identifying potential problems or issues associated with the style and to identify methods of improving their supervisory skills. The supervisors will be guided in drafting their own leadership philosophy to assist them in improving later when working with their subordinate officers when they return to the field. Finally, a series of practical situations of which the First Line Supervisor may be exposed will be discussed and addressed in class, so the supervisors are better prepared in a more proactive and forward thinking approach when the situations are encountered.
