Everywhere you look cities and urban areas are developing greenways or urban trail systems. Whether this interest is based in the discussions about the environment or the need to attract the younger professionals more apt to use such systems, they are springing up in every community.
This two-day training is designed to acquaint the attendees of the process, methods and techniques that have led to success in some systems and to identify the pitfalls that were encountered along the way. A classroom primer will also provide the attendee a rudimentary working knowledge of the basic principles, as relevant to trail design, of “Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design” (CPTED). An afternoon visit to a local trail for practical demonstrated instruction will reinforce the applications of good design and examine any poor design features.
This course will not address the local design and approval process.
Who should Attend
This course is appropriate for law enforcement, park and trail designers, and any with an interest in designing a safer greenway or trail system.
Course Length: Two days
