This course is designed to provide insight into conducting Security Surveys for Day Care Centers by sworn and non-sworn law enforcement agency staff assigned the responsibility of conducting such surveys.  Day Care Centers are a unique environment, which require familiarization with statutes and administrative laws pertaining to their operations as well as a working knowledge of crime prevention applications pertaining to Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED).  

 

This course will build on the existing knowledge of the crime prevention practitioner, provide a brief refresher on CPTED, and overview the statutes pertaining to Day Care Centers.  The student will be provided a template for aiding in conducting safety and security surveys in these facilities, which may be customized and must include their own commentary on vulnerable areas, as well as recommendations.   

Who should Attend

This class is restricted to those working in a law enforcement agency and is specifically appropriate for those officers conducting security assessments or providing advice on hardening the target.

 

Students should bring a laptop computer capable of accepting Compact Disks.

 

Course Objectives: 

 

1. The student will be able to demonstrate a general knowledge of laws pertaining to Child Day Centers (CDC) in Virginia.

2. The student will gain and apply knowledge of special considerations applicable to CDC relative to safety and security

3. The student will be provided the knowledge and skills required  to conduct Security and Safety Evaluation of a CDC facility.
