“I want employees to realize the importance of taking appropriate actions and involving appropriate partner agencies to address community concerns,” Dunn said. “As we increase our citizen engagement, we must be positioned to address the concerns that are brought to our attention to avoid losing credibility with community members.” A big believer in community engaged policing, (Chief Sean)Dunn has had success with the program as a police chief in Martinsville. In 2016, violent crime dropped 51 percent and property crime dropped 11 percent over the previous year, according to the 2016 Crime in Virginia report from Virginia State Police. From 2014 to 2016, violent crime in Martinsville went down 59 percent and property crime fell 26 percent. …
